The Mexican Food Festival @ Barbeque Nation | Bangalore

Aam Punch & Mango Delight

Well it’s time for another festival!

We (Indians) mention this restaurant whenever we are questioned about a buffet. Any guesses?

It’s none other than Barbeque Nation and this post is all about their new ongoing Mexican Food Festival. The natural expectation is that there is a lot of spiciness involved especially on the grill.

Without further ado, let’s walk you through what this festival has to offer. This is Barbeque Nation we are talking about so quality and quantity both remain un-compromised.

Their setup is classic and everyone around will be in Mexican attire to give you that authentic feel. About the food, initially they give less spicy kebabs on the grill as they don’t want to kill you but the real deal starts when you request for spicy stuff.

Earlier we used to visit restaurants only in our vicinity for convenience, but now we have expanded our circle of concern & influence.

Because of that, we not only have larger exposure but have an array of unvisited restaurants!

This post is dedicated to one of our recent encounters with a beautiful outside & a funky inside: The Whitefield Arms.

The Whitefield Arms if a pub cum restaurant which will amaze you! From the outside, it has beautiful ambient light with flowers, wooden seating arrangements & speakers which look like stone. From the inside, it’s dim with decent music & comfortable seating arrangements. Their bar is huge by the way!

It is located in VR Bengaluru and has an entrance from the outside as well as from within.
We were invited for experiencing their offerings so here we go:

Chicken Pahadi Kebab @ The Rahhams Experience | Frazer Town | Bangalore
Chicken Pahadi Kebab

We were craving for some old fashioned kebabs & biryani for quite some time now & we finally had our fill. What a feeling!

No matter how frequently one has fancy food, sometimes the good old stuff has its way of winning you over. This happens more when you have awesome company. We always look out for great presentation & stuff, but this time we focussed mainly on stuffing our faces!

We were recently invited to a legendary restaurant in old Bangalore called Rahhams. Situated in MM Road, Frazer town this restaurant might not impress you when it comes to the décor, but when it comes to the food: man! Their kebabs are mouth-watering and we were almost full by just having their kebabs.

The best part is that for a hearty meal, your pocket does not suffer here. The pricing is super reasonable when it comes to the quantity & quality of food. If you are a large eater, this is your playfield!

The seating arrangement is quite spacious & their staff is friendly & cooperative. So, coming down to the items we tried:

Rahhams is famous for their delectable kebabs & biryani and so, we did not have any dessert as such.
We tried 4 starters: Chicken Chandni Kebab, Chicken Pahadi Kebab and the Chicken & Mutton Sholey Kebab.

Then, for main course: Mutton Biriyani & Mutton Chops.

This post is all about non-veg so we apologize if you started reading & you are a vegetarian.
The best chicken kebab out of the ones we tried was undoubtedly the Pahadi. Everything was perfect about this kebab. The colour, the juiciness of the chicken, the mustard flavour balanced with the charred touch and how well it was done. This is made only with boneless chicken legs and it is as tender as it gets.

The Chandni kebab is the child of the chicken reshmi kebab & the chicken malai kebab, if you get what I mean. The chicken in this kebab was also very succulent & the taste was unique and close to the malai kebab. We also felt they use egg whites for the marinade, but whatever it may be, it tasted splendid.

Now for the Chicken Sholey Kebab: It has a predominance of curry leaves but the flavours actually went well. The pieces were flat and small but the quantity was a lot. This was slightly on the oiler side but sometimes the greasier things actually taste better. (Definitely not for people on a diet). Lastly, this kebab needs to be consumed hot as if it turns cold you’ll only get the flavour of the curry leaves.

Lastly, the Mutton Sholey kebab was the best of the lot. This kebab is not boneless and that is where it gets better. The flavours of the bone & the meat together make it unbelievably tasty & even while writing we can feel it. Similar to the chicken, one can feel the flavour of curry leaves but in this case, the mutton is so flavourful that the curry leaves don’t stand a chance!

That’s all from the starters.

Mutton Biryani

Sweet Kheer (Complimentary with Biryani)

Their Mutton Biryani is legendary and we got a taste of it. It is not a long grain rice preparation but a medium grain one but the aroma & taste is what defines it. In most biryani’s the meat in either dry or added separately but in this case, the mutton is juicy & the rice retains the flavours too. This is served with salan & sweet kheer. We really liked the biryani as it is light on the stomach, perfect with respect to quantity and the flavours are not too loud.

Lastly, along with the biryani we had Mutton Chops as the accompaniment. This is cooked with mutton on the bone with fat. The charred pieces tasted heavenly. They had a smoky flavour as well which tastes great in general but coupled with the flavour of mutton it tasted even better!
That’s all from this meaty episode.

Do check out the visuals to relate better.

We loved this experience as sometimes these less fancy places give you more than the fancier ones!
Do let us know about your experience if you visit/have visited.

We’ll be back again soon.

The Gourmet Safari @ The VR Bengaluru

Non-Veg Main course served at Toscano

All of us might have heard of the term “pub crawl” but have you guys ever thought of something like a “restaurant crawl”?

Well YES, as bizarre as it sounds we were recently a part of something similar and it sure was fun!

The VR Bengaluru is currently organising the VR Foodies Fest which includes a whole lot of exciting stuff like master classes, cook-offs, pub crawls etc. but we were a part of something called the Gourmet Safari which involves restaurant hopping for each individual course.

This entire extravaganza is running from the 6th till the 16th of April & the Gourmet Safari is on for the dates: 5, 6, 15, and 16.

The entire fest is curated by Karen Anand & we had the pleasure of meeting & interacting with her.
Now for the Gourmet Safari in detail:

Non Veg Pizza with chicken sausages & chicken pepperoni

Although we were never too glad to be around pizzas initially, gradually we let down our walls and accepted it!

After all, they are cheesy by nature (haha?)

From Italian speciality restaurants to Pizzerias & large pizza chains we have tried a variety of pizzas but this time, there was something new on the cards.

Pizza Hut launched a new kind of Pizza called the “Cracker Thin” Pizza across all their branches in Bangalore & Jaipur and it is an absolute treat! Priced very reasonably, it has a very thin crust and contrary to our belief it is actually very soft.

Non-Veg Supreme

They have 10 vegetarian & 10 non vegetarian variants & almost all of them are as good as the other. We tried 3 pizzas: The Veggie Supreme, The Non-veg Supreme & another non veg pizza with loads of chicken sausages & chicken pepperoni.

The Non-veg Supreme Cracker Thin Pizza is a level above normal pizzas: we were finding it hard to let go!

For drinks we tried a Masala Lemonade which is very refreshing & perfect for the hot summers. For dessert, we tried a Choco-chip cookie sundae which is baked in house & is fresh, chocolaty & sinful.

The Veg pizzas are priced at about 450-460 INR AI, and the non-veg about 520 AI which is pretty reasonable considering the usage of Mozzarella & a very generous amount of toppings.

Another good point about the pizzas: unlike other thin crusts, it does not get crunchy but stays soft. The cheese used in the pizzas are proper Mozzarella so enjoy the pull!

That’s all from our side.

If you love pizzas, this is your cue! We really enjoyed these pizzas mainly because they are light on the stomach.

Do let us know about your experience if you try.

We’ll be back with more food info soon.

Till then—eat guilt free & bon apetit!

If you are a regular reader of the blog: Firstly, Thank you for your support. It is because of you, that we get the motivation to write on.

Secondly, you must be aware that we love to try out new kinds of food and write about them!

So, this post is all about the ongoing Rajasthani Food Festival at M Café, Marriott Whitefield, Bangalore. Although we have tried Rajasthani food before, we have never a part of a complete experience.

We have been to M Café before for other festivals but this festival is different from the others: the food is actually authentic & one of the best food festivals we have experienced.

For those who are well versed with this type of cuisine, we recommend visiting by the 6th of April as the festival ends on this day. Whereas for people like us who do not have much of a clue but are willing to experience: this is a golden opportunity!

We had the pleasure of interacting with Maharaj Bhik Singh, a special chef from Marriot Jaipur who gave us a walkthrough of all the items. We’ll be talking about the highlights only. There was nothing worth complaining about as everything was perfectly executed. The only thing one needs to be careful about is that there are certain items which are an acquired taste & the first hit on the palate might not be a pleasing one!

So, now about the food:
