The Hyderabadi Food Festival @ M Café | Marriott Whitefield | Bangalore

Anyone in the mood for some Hyderabadi Cuisine?

Well, the land of the NIzams have a lot in store when it comes to food and not everything is super spicy!

In this post we’ll talk about the Hyderabadi Food Festival, which is on at M Café, Marriott Whitefield Bangalore. This time they’ve mixed things up a bit and the outcome was rather pleasant.

So, moving forward:

For this festival, the setup is just outside the M Café entry so you can sniff up the aroma well in advance.

We tried a whole lot of items from the special festival menu and the regular buffet and almost all of them deserve praise!

From the festival menu, the must tries are:

Starters: The Paneer & Lamb starters along with the Ulte Tawe ke Paratha

Their Haleem had a smooth consistency and was super heavy on the stomach! The taste was unparalleled and this was the culprit behind us getting full. It has shredded meat all over, with caramelized onions & a shallow fried egg on top. It was literally mouthwatering.

The Paneer starter was well done and soft. The Paratha along with the lamb starter tasted heavenly. The lamb was slight spicy and tasted similar to a mutton chaap but was boneless.

From the mains: The Lamb preparation called the Dakha Gosht and the Paneer Pista Korma deserve a try! The fact is, one you try these you might not be able to stop!
The former is cooked with lentils & is spicy and heavy but super delicious. The latter is a rich paneer preparation which is green in colour and the creamy consistency felt great with the soft cubes of paneer.

The Biriyanis tasted different and were pretty decent. They were prepared in a different style and were slightly spicy.

Now it’s time for dessert.

Everything is worth a try but the special ones were: The paper type dessert which was fun to have. Its name is very complicated though. The Cham Cham was spongy and tasted good. A little less sweet and it would have been much better.

Lastly, the beetroot halwa was amazing. The colour, crunch added by the almonds and the taste was top notch. Moreover, it had the right amount of sweetness as well.
There are many things to explore in this festival and we have merely given a glimpse of what we feel is worth a shot.

That’s all from our side!

The festival is on till the 25th of this month.

Do let us know about your experience if you visit.

Till then—rock on & bon apetit!

Earlier we used to visit restaurants only in our vicinity for convenience, but now we have expanded our circle of concern & influence.

Because of that, we not only have larger exposure but have an array of unvisited restaurants!

This post is dedicated to one of our recent encounters with a beautiful outside & a funky inside: The Whitefield Arms.

The Whitefield Arms if a pub cum restaurant which will amaze you! From the outside, it has beautiful ambient light with flowers, wooden seating arrangements & speakers which look like stone. From the inside, it’s dim with decent music & comfortable seating arrangements. Their bar is huge by the way!

It is located in VR Bengaluru and has an entrance from the outside as well as from within.
We were invited for experiencing their offerings so here we go:

If you are a regular reader of the blog: Firstly, Thank you for your support. It is because of you, that we get the motivation to write on.

Secondly, you must be aware that we love to try out new kinds of food and write about them!

So, this post is all about the ongoing Rajasthani Food Festival at M Café, Marriott Whitefield, Bangalore. Although we have tried Rajasthani food before, we have never a part of a complete experience.

We have been to M Café before for other festivals but this festival is different from the others: the food is actually authentic & one of the best food festivals we have experienced.

For those who are well versed with this type of cuisine, we recommend visiting by the 6th of April as the festival ends on this day. Whereas for people like us who do not have much of a clue but are willing to experience: this is a golden opportunity!

We had the pleasure of interacting with Maharaj Bhik Singh, a special chef from Marriot Jaipur who gave us a walkthrough of all the items. We’ll be talking about the highlights only. There was nothing worth complaining about as everything was perfectly executed. The only thing one needs to be careful about is that there are certain items which are an acquired taste & the first hit on the palate might not be a pleasing one!

So, now about the food:

We, as in those who love food think about Cuisine in general but rarely do we think about the regions involved especially when it comes to foreign Cuisine. For us, there is North Indian, South Indian, Punjabi, Bengali etc. so the same applies for other Cuisines too!

So, this time we were invited to Alto Vino, Marriott Whitefield’s specialty Italian restaurant for experiencing their one of a kind North Italian Food Festival, specially curated by Chef Marou who himself hails from Northern Italy.

Although Italian Cuisine has the same base concept, different regions use different herbs and ingredients and techniques so there is a lot more involved than it seems.

We had Mr. Viraj Sawant with us for dinner who is a well-known sommelier and he talked a lot about the wines which he had chosen to pair with the food. We had two white variants and a red. The first one was citrusy and acidic, the second variant called Gavi had mellowed notes. Lastly the red did not have the kick we expected but had the correct amount of tartness.

We tried a set menu which was specially crafted for wine pairing. Let us take you through the highlights of our North Italian meal:

Bangalore is the land of craft beers and one might end up spotting more microbreweries and pubs than grocery stores here(Just kidding, or are we?)

We have visited many such pubs and breweries and while some of them catch the eye and leave behind a long lasting image, the others are better off doing something else! This time we bring to you our experience of a relatively new pub & microbrewery called Biergarten in Whitefield, Bangalore.

This definitely falls into the first category as this is probably the only fully open air arrangement in Bangalore. From the outside it appeared more like a factory, but upon entry one can admire its true beauty. They have a lower and upper level, all open embracing nature with good music and a little bit of sweat to taste! The upper level has a lot of space and the seating is scattered to ensure privacy and a cool surrounding.

We had a near perfect experience if it was not for the afternoon heat for which they need to install a few more fans. They do have a lot of greenery around so we really admire and appreciate their vision.

Coming down to the food & beers:

We tried 4 variants of beer: Wheat beer and the 3 Lagers: Light Lager, Strong Lager & Dark Lager.

They had a decent head and body although the fizz ran out after a while. They were light and did not have a strong kick. The wheat beer was amazing and went well with their chicken wings preparation.

The 3 Lagers deserve praise too but the Dark Lager is a must try. Their beers tasted different to other beers we have tasted before.

For starters we tried The Biergarten Chicken Wings, Firecracker Prawns, Lemon Spiked Chicken Tikka, Spinach and Cheese Filo Parcel, Mushroom & Lamb Galouti and the Mushroom & Tofu Skewers. From Dim Sum: The Crystal Dumplings and the Pork Char Siu Bao.

We were thoroughly impressed with the suggestions of their staff who were very courteous and provided speedy service. Moreover, at their pricing their quality and quantity were quite astonishing! (In a positive way)

The meats in all the cases were tender, juicy and well-cooked. The flavours went in and the chef deserves a thumbs up for a job well done.

The Wings were spicy, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The Prawns were covered with crispy ribbons but this actually tasted good as the ribbons had a tinge of mustard which gave it some flavour. Apart from this, the prawns were well done and of decent size. The presentation of the Lemon Spiked Chicken Tikka was lovely. One can taste the “Spike” with the first bite itself.

The Spinach and Cheese Filo Parcel was unique and tasted different. The raw flavours of spinach was subdued and the combination of spinach and cheese is tried and tested. However, a little bit more cheese would have done wonders.

The Galouti Kebabs were excellent and served traditionally with the tawa paratha. The mincing was perfect and the flavours were mouth-watering. The Mushroom Galouti was a tad bit saltier than expected. The Mushroom & Tofu skewers are a must try if you love mushrooms. Soya sauce dominated the scene but the entire package was skewer licking good!

About the dim sums: The Crystal Dumplings can be missed but don’t miss out the Char Siu Bao. The formers covering was hard and that is not expected in dim sums. The Bao was a covered bao with a spicy pork filling which was delicious.

We were quite stuffed by this time and we did not try much from the main course. Meanwhile, we tried a mocktail called In the Summer Time which was very refreshing and acted as a palate cleanser. The flavours of Mango & Coconut with a creamy finish is something we can’t say no to ;)

Lastly, we tried their Pulled Pork Burger which was big, heavy and brilliantly done. Except for the cabbage and onions which were too long, the shredded pork tasted amazing with the cheddar.

We tried the Raspberry Cheese cake for dessert which had a twist. It was a normal cheese cake with Raspberry flavour but the bottom layer was made of coconut. We tried this combo for the first time and it certainly won’t be the last!

Now that’s our Biergarten experience for you.

Their brews are good but their starters are better! Do keep in mind that their quantity is a lot.

These guys are definitely worth visiting because of their unique concept and ultimately because of the quality food they serve.

Do let us know about your experience if you visit.

We’ll be back soon with something exciting ;)

Till then—stay tuned and bon apetit!

The Superhero Sunday Brunch @ The Marriott | Whitefield | Bangalore

BBQ fish and lamb chop

Restaurants often organize a variety of festivals which have exquisite food offerings which are not normally available. As always it is the name which strikes curiosity first and very recently we have been to The Marriott, Whitefield for digging into their “Superhero Sunday Brunch”. Now that’s a name which will bring out the inner child in you!

The brunch has an elaborate buffet spread and is hosted in their in house restaurant M Cafe. This is one of Marriott’s signature properties in Bangalore and its grandeur and elegance demands attention. For the Superhero Sunday Brunch, they have indoor as well as outdoor seating. Every week the superhero in the theme changes and we witnessed a Thor themed brunch.

They had two mocktails in their drinks menu named Asgard Fizz and the Thor’s Hammer and the names induced excitement! We tried the former and it was a refreshing green apple drink which acted as a good appetizer.

About their buffet: If you really want to try out everything, it is going to take you a minimum of two Sundays ;).

The Irish Are Here ! | The Irish House opens in Bangalore

The Irish are here! Oh no, this is not a stress signal (LOL), we are excited!  The Irish House has opened its doors here in Bangalore! And we were lucky enough to get a preview of “The Irish House”! Let us tell you a little about that…

This gastro Pub is located in VR Bengaluru Mall’s top floor. We loved the decorations outside and when you push through those heavy wooden doors and make way inside, you will feel like you are entering a pub in Ireland!

We loved the witty lines here and there which were part of the eclectic, woody and green décor. The high chairs and bar is what sets this place apart from others in Bangalore. The open seating area is a wonderful place to be in this breezy Bangalore climate.

When we reached there, we were greeted by the warm and friendly staff and the Managers. We also had the pleasure of meeting the folks from The Irish House’s marketing team!

Different people have different opinions and similarly every person has likes and dislikes regarding food. Some love desserts, some love kebabs, breakfast items, etc and there are some who are chaat lovers. So before reading on ask yourself this question: Do YOU like chaat items like samosa chaat, papri chaat, panipuri etc? If the answer is yes, then definitely read on. (Even if it is no, do read on because you might like it once you try!)

Chaat Box Review | Whitefield

The past weekend, we were near Marathalli, Bangalore and something struck us. We came across a new but unique establishment called “chaat box” a while ago, but their service area is near Whitefield and ITPL. Since we were near that area we decided to try what they had to offer. Although they are new to this realm, they have great customer focus because in spite of being outside their service area, they still gave us assurance that they would deliver.

They delivered at the time we requested and they delivered the items reasonably hot. At the current point of time they are only doing home delivery which is fast and free!
